Making of plastic bottles

Plastic bottles are made with a variety of plastic materials. Various materials are used including High-Density Polyethylene, Low-Density Polyethylene, Polyester, Polyvinyl Chloride, Polycarbonate, Polypropylene, recycled plastics like HPDE mixed with natural resin, K-Resin, and Bioplastic Most important among them are Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polystyrene and fluorine treated HDPE. The choice of container material is determined by contents, clarity, intended use like squeeze bottles, storage, and use conditions, and barrier characteristics.

High-Density Polyethylene

High-density polyethylene or polyethylene high-density (PEHD) is a thermoplastic polymer produced from the monomer ethylene. HDPE is recyclable, chemically resistant, sturdy, and above all economically feasible. Owing to its high strength-to-density ratio, it is largely used in the production of plastic bottles. This is a very strong durable plastic that is very resistant to chemical breakdown.  It is extruded or molded into plastic bottles and containers for packaging foods and beverages, personal care products, and many other consumer products.

Plastic bottles are prepared by a process called blow molding. In blow molding, a hollow tube is extruded and placed between two halves of a mold and blown under pressure to produce the bottles. In order to seal the hollow lower end of the parison, a ‘pinch off’ is present in the mold which bends the lower hollow end and flattens it. This generally leaves a mold, mark, or weld line at the bottom of the bottle.

Make sure you choose the manufacturer carefully

Make sure the plastic bottle manufacturer you consult offers a range of molding services to cater to your material requirement. It is vital you make sure the company you intend to hire follower only the highest and most stringent levels of quality control since you intend on mass producing the product and low quality could lead to a major loss. Although most people prefer sticking to a single plastic molding manufacturer, it is vital you make sure you have an alternative in case they don’t deliver.

Knowing a manufacturer’s history is very important to determine the experience they have and the expertise that they can provide. A company complying with the highest quality and sustainability standards will make sure that they produce products with minimum wastage, and rejections, have pollution-avoiding processes in place, and hence maintain the environmental sustainability. They would pay fair wages to their employees, and proper work hours and ensure the health and safety of not only their employees but the society they are operating in.

Lastly, as a customer, ensuring the manufacturer has appropriate and innovative production processes in place is important to maintain economic sustainability towards its customers as that will provide the customers best and fair prices.
